Hello all,

The Carpentries Core Team wanted to provide an update on the work we are doing
in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Last time you heard from us, we
were not able to support remote centrally-organised workshops. To build on the
work that community members have been doing to share strategies and tips for
working online which led to the blog post: _Tips for Teaching Online from The
Carpentries Community_
<https://carpentries.org/blog/2020/03/tips-for-teaching-online/>, we have
convened a task force to support our community and aid in the shift to online
instruction.

This task force will develop a plan to pilot online instruction of The
Carpentries curricula and provide support to the amazing work that community
members have been doing. As online instruction will likely be the norm for some
months, the task force is committed to developing a cohesive plan that will
help the community quickly start the shift and be iterated over time.

The work of the task force will be focused on the creation of three key
resources that we hope will guide the shift to online instruction:

 1. A document summarising resources and strategies that have been shared by
the community around online instruction, and other resources as the task force
deems appropriate. This document should include a recommendation from the task
force about how each strategy or resource is or is not useful for our pilot.

 2. A project plan for implementing a pilot of online instruction of our
technical workshops. This project plan should include information on how each
Core Team member will be involved in this pilot, with estimates of their time
contributions in hours.

 3. A communications plan for launching this pilot.
