Hi Lauren (and others), Attached is a pretty little bar graph I created to add some numbers to this discussion. These are our “show up percentages” (number of people who attended out of the total number registered) for NU Holland Computing Center’s Kickstart vs June Workshop Series (JWS) workshops. These workshops cover (mostly) the same material. This data comes from our 2020 sessions, where everything was delivered via Zoom. Both workshops had 5 sessions: Kickstart was offered in 5 daily, 2 hour sessions (labeled Daily here) and JWS was offered in 5 weekly, 4 hour sessions (labeled Weekly).
There was some differences in content given the differing total hours (the content of the 5th session of JWS was not covered at all during Kickstart), but I thought this showed some interesting drop off trends. Let me know if there’s anything I can clarify about this! Note that information about free workshops would be most helpful, knowing that charging a fee improves attendance, but I'll take what I can get. I *am* hoping for data outside of (although in comparison with) semester-long/for-credit courses over which the Carpentry materials are taught, for which I know attendance is improved for obvious reasons. Thank you, in advance, for any pointers!
