That's a good start at reducing confusion. Could I suggest that, in service of further reducing confusion, you might adjust this part of the vision: "we reject the legacy SunOS uname, instead preferring to identity ourselves as "illumos" proper. Note that as we believe that this approach represents the true future of illumos, we are happy with our choice." It seems like your "vision" is for your fork of illumos to become incompatible with illumos in the near future. I understand that you feel those changes will be necessary to see adoption, and that's just fine. I would say, though, that I think those of us who actually work on "illumos proper" right now would prefer you to come up with a new identifying moniker for your project, rather than further muddying the waters around ours. Your uname could output "illumos-core", or perhaps even "garrett". Cheers. -- Joshua M.
