I can reproduce behavour by starting 'sudo prstat' in gnome-terminal window
and closing window before closing prstat.
It keeps running as root and after a while it's cpu use grows till the point
it is noticable. (at first 37%, then 50%, e.g. 100% of one core).
It seems like prstat should have quit when it encountered "Err#5 EIO"
while writing. One would also hope that it receives (and responds to)
a SIGHUP when its controlling terminal goes away.
