**disclaimer - I am not a developer.

I am at somewhat at odds with the x86 vs Sparc discussion.

As an admin who has been using Solaris on Sparc since 2.3, and x86 since 2.4, I have been told by Sun, time and time again, that Solaris x86 was compiled using the same code base as Sparc.

Obviously there are driver issues.

And there were loader issues/differences, but those should have come into line with the Solaris 10 patch 127127-09, which moved Sparc to GRUB.

Has something come into play, as the last few bits of closed code is being moved to something more open? Is this where the x86 vs Sparc code is differing?

I hope that this isn't a basic question that is obvious to everyone but me.

I agree with Garrett on "x86 first, then see what breaks on SPARC", at
