Hello,

Some time ago we discussed the inclusion of GNU tar and star in Illumos.
Today I tried the following:

apost...@nadya:/opt/gnu# tar -cf c++.tar c++
tar:
structGlib_1_1Container__Helpers_1_1TypeTraits_3_01Glib_1_1RefPtr_3_01Gio_1_1Mount_01_4_01_4-members.html:
 filename is greater than 100
tar:
structGlib_1_1Container__Helpers_1_1TypeTraits_3_01Glib_1_1RefPtr_3_01Gio_1_1Drive_01_4_01_4-members.html:
 filename is greater than 100
tar:
structGlib_1_1Container__Helpers_1_1TypeTraits_3_01Glib_1_1RefPtr_3_01Gio_1_1Volume_01_4_01_4-members.html:
 filename is greater than 100
^capost...@nadya:/opt/gnu# rm c++.tar
apost...@nadya:/opt/gnu# gtar -cf c++.tar c++
apost...@nadya:/opt/gnu#

And this reminded me the discussion we had and made crystal clean to me that we
need get rid of tar and replace it with either star or GNU tar and since star
is

superior to GNU tar, star is the obvious choice.

All the best,

A.S.
