That sounds like pkgfmt -c, which checks for canonical format, much like cstyle,
and is optional if you don't work with other developers or don't mind merge
errors when you both edit the same file in your trees. The ON gate of course
strictly enforces it, in an attempt to maintain merge sanity for developers.
