It took a bit longer than expected, but there is an updated bootstrap kit now for other illumos distributions. It contains fewer packages and you will need to ignore some 'x86_64 != i386' warnings, but it seems to work on OmniOS. Links are available in the blog post, which has been updated. I'd appreciate any feedback so that the 2012Q3 package set can iron out any other issues.
