We're closer to Linux, and even *more* compatible across kernels, than you
typically find with Linux.
One of the problems with NTFS in general is that I believe Microsoft has
patents which have to be licensed in order to properly implement it -- at least
here in the US. (This is true for exFAT as well, which I seem to recall being
the filesystem that was intended for large media sticks -- the very largest
SDcards use exFAT for example.)
