git is awesome, but I think to use git we need some onbld
extensions like nits / pbchk these do not work on my system.

Um… these do work normally with git *if* you make sure /opt/onbld/bin is in 
your path (and you have it installed).  I use them all the time.  (You do need 
to adjust your path though.

That's right, they work well. But the name of the repository *must* be
origin. During the migration from mercurial to git, I called it upstream
and got strange errors ...
