Not that I don't think it's worthwhile, but it's probably unusual. Just to expand on why this exists - the first thing was to keep me honest, trying to avoid baking in assumptions about ZFS. The second is that, while we all know that ZFS is clearly the world's best file system and all that, it isn't necessarily the best choice in all possible scenarios. (Genuinely resource constrained systems in particular.
