FWIW I am using a 3 TB Toshiba USB 3 disk w/ OI 151a8 for backups. I haven't
been able to set ashift=12, but it seems to work properly. I don't recall any
issues seeing the disk.

anything fundamentally wrong here… it looks like
scsa2usb at least sees it.
It feels like devfsadm or
the devlinks stuff isn’t working. Try devfsadm -i
sd ?
