Just my 2 cents on this long discussion I read after coming back from my
vacation:
- all this story around Martin is so sad :(
- whenver I read "Sun failed" "Sun died" I always think: if Sun was failing,
why would Oracle buy failint stuff? To me, actually didn't fail, just sold at a
very good rate, and I bet the guys (Scott etc) may be very happy with their
money! To me, a failing company is one that has nothing more to sell or no one
is buying anymore...
- I understand Garret points about Desktop on illumos, but...you know...I like
it and I'm still commited to it! So...we want KMS/DRM!
- Also, by working on desktop components, I inherently advanced also userland
components to support it, and also I would never had a libreoffice 5 component
that, in headless mode, becomes a very promising server component!
Last words: if only Martin would write more concise and forget about politics
here... :( I have him friend @ Facebook, and he's a nice guy, even though he
spams a lot about his view about politics and so on...it's just his own
view...and his firefox patches have been amazing and allowed me to port them to
latest thunderbird too! Thanks Martin! ;)
Just my 2 cents.

Re: [developer] Re: [discuss] Martin Bochnig ban in effect
Given that I’ve received legal threats from the author of those changes
if we use any of them, I’m going to avoid looking at them, to make sure
that I’m totally clean. (Yes I understand that if the code is suitably
licensed such threats may be empty.) More to the point, I need to make sure
that we have the ability to support the software prior to integration, and that
means I (or someone else) needs to deeply understand the code.

No, that is specifically included the ban, for all the reasons mentioned —
at any rate now that Oracle’s code for KMS is posted under a liberal
license, I think we the whole point is moot.
Hi, Garrett.
I thought you could be interested.
I've imported Martin's sources in oi-userland (for now in my fork, not official
repository).
I've tried to do it so that Martin's changes are easily reviewable. Binaries
work for me on Intel HD 4000 (and not on GM965).
There are some small issues, but generally it looks fine.
Perhaps, you (or someone else) would be interested in reviewing the code. I
think such code
should be shared between distributions (and of course would benefit from
competent reviewer).
And honestly, I'd like to see someone supporting it at least a bit:)
As you can see, Martin's changes are not so enormous, and of course, reviewable
.
