functions alone are not sufficient, this is why bosh also supports local shell 
variables.

BTW: Around April 2010, Sun did change a lot of scripts and three of these 
scripts that are called with /sbin/sh since then contained non-portable 
features from ksh93 that are not part of POSIX and thus not supported by bosh.
The changeset 13280:cf8a732487d8 in schillix-ON fixes that and is required 
in order to be able to boot with /sbin/sh being bosh.

They have been made suitable years ago, just the current version of schillix-on
does not represent the current development state from schilytools.
