Well, if you did reply to the thread starter, that was not me.... > > Bosh is small and fast POSIX shell based on the Bourne Shell and thus not a > > condidate to replace bash, but rather the best candidate for /sbin/sh on > > OpenSolaris. > > > As long as Bosh can support functions, I can make it do everything either of > ksh93 and/or Bash do right now (in combination with the UNIX command-line > toolkit). > That way, going further, the illumos community and it's distributions can be > free to change the user/root shell to anything they see fit as per market > trends. functions alone are not sufficient, this is why bosh also supports local shell variables. BTW: Around April 2010, Sun did change a lot of scripts and three of these scripts that are called with /sbin/sh since then contained non-portable features from ksh93 that are not part of POSIX and thus not supported by bosh. The changeset 13280:cf8a732487d8 in schillix-ON fixes that and is required in order to be able to boot with /sbin/sh being bosh. > My views and opinions are not deemed that important, but if I had the chance > to vote on this, I'd "up-vote" the choice to integrate "Bosh" and "dmake" > made suitable for the OpenSolaris line of operating systems. They have been made suitable years ago, just the current version of schillix-on does not represent the current development state from schilytools.
