Speaking of Helping hands. If you would upload your patches for rust
coreutils upstream, I could get some tools working that I want for my
desktop setup and start using the Higher level functions there :) Just
because they are not in illumos-gate doesn't mean nobody uses them on
illumos. And yes we would love you helping out with packages :)

Thanks Till,
I'm also a big fan of the MPLv2 - we use it for our open source repositories. I
hadn't realized (or had forgotten) that hate CDDL was derived from the original
MPL or that v2 was based on the CDDL! Regarding GPL, that is understandable,
though I always has the impression it was linking with (not distributing with)
GPL software that caused issue.
There is a lot more nuance in licensing than Till described. I should
point out that there is GPLv2 and LGPLv2 code in illumos-gate. For
example, grub, libdwarf, etc. Several things are dual licensed (though
with us opting to use the non-GPL license for most of those). For most
new code to illumos, it is expected to be licensed under the CDDL
preferably or otherwise under a CDDL-compatible license, though the
specifics matter greatly (e.g. a BSD 2 clause is different from other
stuff).

Also, I would like to point out that even if it is very nice to get new
apps/technologies (like rust:) added/integrated, we do have whole lot of
userland (and non-userland) which is desperately needing care and helping hands.
