(this is just my personal opinion): Open Source exists around the idea of
sharing. Both illumos (as "heir" to Solaris) and the BSDs follow this idea
quite well, so it's not unusual that there's exchange of ideas and
technology -- examples: FreeBSD took ZFS and Dtrace from OpenSolaris,
Solaris took the idea of jails and created zones ... to name just a few.

There is no "us against them", nor should there be. If there's competition
to provide a better solution, everybody profits in the long run.
