FreeBSD and OpenBSD switched to an LLVM-based toolchain a long time ago. In the Linux world, significant progress has been made, and it is now possible to build the Linux kernel with Clang. Some Linux distros, such as OpenMandriva Lx, have had their packages compiled with Clang for ages.
Based on my personal experience, the LLVM-based toolchain is more capable and easier to work with. It offers better PGO support, and not to mention, ThinLTO. ------------------------------------------ illumos: illumos-discuss Permalink: https://illumos.topicbox.com/groups/discuss/T5e107dc308f14b27-Mcfe3a42203984035fa95ca29 Delivery options: https://illumos.topicbox.com/groups/discuss/subscription
