This is a very good question. As we know, IxD is the inevitable things -- if you produce some thing for using, you'll do it( consciousness or not ). That's why it's safe to say IxD is everywhere. I have a personal experience, while the kitchen designer and me try to make the kitchen "easy to use", both of us never mention IxD, but it dosent matter at all, the design follow the interaction design's way very well. But after i formally practice the IxD, i come back to analyze the design of the kitchen, it also help the understanding. IxD design most of the time, is design for un-consciousness, the user will not notice it. it's only matter to the designer, as Dan also says, many designer even dont know the word of IxD, but the design can be reasonable. The consciousness part remain at the designer's side, from design to evaluation, so from this perspective, seek the consiouness ixd design is also not a very necessary.
