Title: Sr. Manager, UI Design, DES Video Merchant Services Location: Vancouver, WA
Compensation: $140-$160,000 base, depending on experience Hewlett Packard (HP) Digital Entertainment Services (DES) enables retailers and etailers to sell licensed video titles in highly innovative ways and connects people with compelling content in simple and intuitive ways - to offer consumers ways to find what they want to watch, when, where and how they want to watch it. DES is poised to own the territory of full service online video stores and NextDayTV titles for retail store discovery and intend to continue to create and maintain the best-of-breed sites and online channels. The Video Merchant Services (VMS) team within DES is responsible for full site design, consumer experience, content delivery, fulfillment, online marketing and back end operations. They enable not just traditional DVD sales but multiple formats including digital downloads, DVD Manufactured-On-Demand, and portable device files. VMS needs to grow their team quickly to accommodate the needs of major retailers in the sales pipeline. The DES group is seeking a Senior Manager of UI Design to report to the head of VMS Product Management. The Senior Manager will own the consumer experience, design language, look and feel and tone of merchant sites and will manage the web/visual design and related creative processes (graphic design, layout, copywriting) for both custom and private label deployments. He/she will work closely with product management, managers of web development and business development to define and deliver the customer experience of the DES product offerings. Responsibilities The Senior Manager of UI Design should be a thought leader who can steer, improve and enhance the experience for merchant customers' websites. His/her overall responsibilities will include identifying and managing creative contractors and agencies as well as hiring a full time team as the VMS group expands. He/she should also be skilled in hands on information architecture, interaction design, usability, and visual design. Requirements: Hands-On User Experience Design Expertise * Should be well versed in user centered design - experience in researching consumer behavior, developing unique consumer insights through to performing task analysis * Experience leading interaction design efforts from persona definition to user flows to wireframes to visual design * Experience in information architecture and interaction design * Practical knowledge of web design best practices, including processes and lifecycles * Practical knowledge in effective marketing and instructional copy writing Strategic Thinking, Marketing and Business Knowledge * Understanding and experience in influencing e-commerce marketing objectives (on-line consumer experience, site navigation, content merchandising and promotion, conversion metrics) * Experience translating marketing and business objectives into winning design strategies and solutions that deliver against them Relevant Experience * Experience working on high-traffic, consumer-facing, preferably Fortune 1000 e-commerce sites * Experience with online digital media - video, music, games People, Resource and Project Management Skills * Experience in motivating and managing creative talent - in-house, creative agencies and/or contractors (ETWs) * Effectiveness in working across organizational boundaries to manage and prioritize project work * Ability to define and manage budgets and resources * Ability to manage multiple parallel program schedules/milestones Technology Knowledge and Skills * Should be a thought leader in web 2.0/3.0 * Knowledge of design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) to create workflows, wireframes, and visual mock ups that are delivered to web developers for production implementation * General understanding of current web design technologies (e.g. HTML, CSS, Flash, AJAX, Ruby) and the capabilities of modern web browsers and plug-ins * Working knowledge of web search, personalization, and social networking concepts strongly desired Winning Attributes * Ability to translate concepts into depictions that others can quickly understand to advance collaboration * Ability to thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment, e.g. can quickly prioritize tasks and optimize resources, deciding on the most efficient and effective way to get things done Qualifications * Minimum of 5 years of experience in interaction design * At least 3 in consumer web application design Email resume (Word or PDF preferred.
