Hi All,

Having worked at amazon, design changes are extensively tested w/ multiple 
variations.

The *best* one wins and is then ramped up to 100%.  The system is quite 
extensive and the instrumentation takes awhile to build up.  You see the 
various analytics packages and SEM/SEOs pushing their website optimization 
packages everywhere the last couple years ;)

RE: the product pages... while they are overwhelming, there is a method to the 
madness -- imagine if you had to click 4 times to get the editorial review/cust 
review/recommendations/upsell.  Those features would all be buried!

As someone who works on several sites like amazon as far as depth and
breadth of media, we've found that customers like the big images,
etc. Amazon overwhelms with all the content, but that top have (and
the combo deal) is pretty successful IMO.
