I looked up information about the Pecha Kucha at the Klein Dytham Architecture site and they use the phrase "patented system" in their description. Does "patented" refer an actual USA or international intellectual property patent?
"The key to Pecha Kucha Night is its patented system for avoiding this fate. Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each - giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to show." This is simply a variation on other short talk techniques where there are timing and presentaiton constraints so I have trouble understanding how it could be patented (and if so, then others would have to obtain a license to use the technique). I assume that there is some literary license here, but "patented" does have a strong legal meaning.
