Our last enterprise search incorporated all of the below. I'd say there was
no perfect place for tags, taggers, saved queries and other features, except
to say that the most critical utility (the actual results) must predominate
the page, since 90-99% of our study participants just kept using search the
way they always do.

That said, we settled on having tag clouds and other features in a narrow
column on the right side, out of the way of results, and small icons
(similar to what you see for Digg, etc around the web) to the left of
results. Personally, I thought we should have kept document icons to the
left and put the utility links at the end of each abstract. Losing the
document links made it much more difficult to scan results for the right
type.

Best of luck...

Subject: [IxDA Discuss] Usability for social search

Is anyone working on usability related to enterprise social search? Issues
that come to mind are how to display information from both internal and
external sources on one screen, where and how to display tags and taggers,
whether to offer suggestions on the tagging window, etc?
