Hi Oliver, one well-known technique used for analysing qualitative data is called "Grounded Theory". You can find a good summary of the method here:
http://www.scu.edu.au/schools/gcm/ar/arp/grounded.html (it may also be covered in your book). Don't be scared by all the terminology that goes with this process (it comes from a Social Research background). Try to understand the spirit of the technique and apply it in whatever time you have. I'm no expert either, but I used it quite succesfully for a research project to analyse user's attitues on digital photography tools & equipment.
