I have done this in Flash to fit content into multiple columns. If you can measure leading (baseline to baseline) and the number of lines for a given width, you can calculate how many lines to show and then reflow to next column. Basically you would do the same for the blurbs too. You could cut it off and say "..." or "[more]"
