I am remiss in not mentioning earlier that the local Chicago IxDA is excited to hold our monthly meet-up at the Phizz Pop Design Challenge, being held on Wednesday, December 5th (how is that next week already?). As Chris Bernard said, though, you need to register, so follow the link below for more information.
http://designchallenge.phizzpop.com/ Our November event was a great success, with close to 40 people in attendance! One thing is clear, folks are excited to have a local forum to bring the list topics to life. Like one attendee mentioned, it's like having a mini-conference once a month. And better yet, it's free for attendees! Last month's topic was Rich Internet Applications (RIA), which clearly ended up being a topic that exceeds just one night's discussion. Carolyn Chandler and Brett Gilbert from Manifest Digital lead the discussion, first by asking WHAT an RIA was, and it was quickly evident that there was no one definition to agree on (not a surprise with this list, right?). Beyond the definition, other topics came up that warrant futher discussion: -How do I communicate RIA during the design process (the $10,000 question, and the one most people struggle with day-to-day). -How do I stay current with the technology, so that I know what's possible when I'm designing? -Am I at a disadvantage if I don't understand the technology? -Are we too attached to our historical deliverables, trying to make them work as design documents for RIAs? -How have desktop app designers, or flash designers, historically approached these issues? Chris Bernard from Microsoft also showed many examples, which sparked much discussion. We wanted more time to discuss, but you can only do so much in one night. With that in mind, Nick Iozzo from TandemSeven is interested in creating a Chicago-based Unconference focused on these important issues, where we the participants get to shape and guide the agenda. We'll definitely send out a separate email to explain more and gauge interest. We have a space secured for our January meet-up (thank you, Critical Mass!), when we'll go back to our regular format. Be on the look-out for dates and topics. If you have a topic you'd like to lead at an event, please let us know! janna On Nov 27, 2007 4:02 PM, Chris Bernard <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > The catch?
