Dear IxDA constituency,

The IxDA Board is seeking energetic, motivated candidates for several
open Board positions starting in early 2008. The Board comprises nine
volunteers. There are presently four executive positions: President,
Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer, each of whom are elected
from among the Board members. The remaining Board members are
Directors. Each Board member serves for a two-year term, and turnover
is staggered so that 4 or 5 members carry over every year. We
recently instituted a consecutive two-term limit (but after one term
off the Board, an individual is eligible to rejoin).
IxDA Board members have some common responsibilities, including:
* Contributing a minimum of 3 hours (but often 5) per week to
IxDA business
* Attending monthly conference calls
* Participating actively in Board discussions and votes (via
email and online forums)
* Contributing financially to IxDA during fund-raising events
* Attending the annual Board retreat (which may involve expenses
on the order of several hundred dollars but may alternately be paid
by the organization)
Additionally, Board members are expected to chair or join committees
for various initiatives, so they are positioned to become leaders in
the field. Today’s initiatives range from support of local groups to
technology infrastructure development & brand stewardship to
conference planning to...your favorite cause that advances the
profession of interaction design!

In this application, we’re looking for some background information
about yourself and your professional history, as well as learning
about your positions regarding IxDA. During the application process,
a committee of Board members will review all submissions. Final
candidates will be chosen by majority vote of the full Board. (Please
note that your application for Board membership is construed as
understanding and acceptance of the Board member responsibilities
listed above.) We intend to invite candidates to join the Board on or
around January 15, 2008, and announce the new Board at our
Interaction 08 conference in Savannah on February 8-10, 2008. If
you're chosen, your presence at this conference is strongly
encouraged (but not mandated) since it will be an invaluable time to
forge connections with the rest of the Board and the organization as
a whole.
