In fashion, the first people to see/adopt a fashion would be called "Fashion
Forward/Trend Setters".

Given that you're trying to maximize the economic benefits of "trend
setting", then "Timing" comes into play. Timing is really everything, as if
you're ahead of a trend you'll miss renumeration as much as if you're behind
a trend.

Also in fashion there are leading and trending markets, thus you can predict
other markets by identifying them as followers and the period of lag they
exhibit. For example European fashion tends to be 1 year ahead of "Trend
Setting Fashion" makrkets in the US, (at least in the 90's). Trend Setting
areas of the US, (eg New York), are 1 year head of 1st trailing markets, (eg
Chicago), and 2nd trailing markets tend to be 1 year behind 1st trailing
markets, (say Phonix).

As the web tends to be geographically unihibited, (although certain regions
adopt specific technologies earlier then others), markets would probably be
defined via "adoption rate" such as "conceptual creators/adopters" "bleeding
edge adopters", "early adopters", "true and tested adopters" and "laggard
adopters".

Thus leading edge companies for 2008 will incorporate "Blogs" and "community
aspects" in their sites.
