Tonight the Chicago IxDA gathered at Critical Mass to discuss what it meant to design for the mobile experience. Many thanks to David Armano, Gabby Hon and everyone else at Critical Mass for opening your doors to us and for leading us in tonight's discussion.
If you were unable to attend, Critical Mass broadcast the event live, a first for us. While it's difficult to ensure the audio level is high enough for the format we've chosen (conversational rather than straight-up presentational), we will definitely attempt it again. Check it out: http://ustream.tv/recorded/ocar7oM8BS198l0BArFP5LF2pLttiKm7 Some topics of interest: -If we design websites for a living, will we ultimately need to become mobile designers as well? -Impact of mobile data within retail spaces (ability to comparison shop in context, ability for the retail space to adjust itself based on who I am, mobile device as barcode scanning device, as coupon delivery system) -Impact of mobile on the youth of today (so much time for them to text today, what happens when they enter the workforce?) -Ethics of design in the mobile space -Impact of mobile experiences on memory and cognition Thank you to all who have shown interest in having a Chicago IxDA group. Our event notification list is now up to 124 names! If you'd like to be on our list for future event reminders, please let me know. Save the date, our next event will be Wednesday, February 13th, where we will discuss the topics that come out of the Interaction08 conference. We are working on the space for this event. If you have any space that you'd like to volunteer for this wonderful endeavor, please let me know.
