Web Visual Designer
Salary £30 -35K
 
LOVEFiLM is looking for an exceptional visual designer to join our team. 

 

The job holder will enhance design and user interface of our web based software 
platform. Additionally the job holder will collaborate with the product design 
team, product managers, and software developers to design, build & maintain 
customer-facing UI elements, web pages, and sites.

 

The ideal candidate will be a practical-minded perfectionist with the ability 
to both create compelling visual treatments and work through complex concepts 
and details. 

 

We are looking for a practitioner who can handle a range of project types - 
some of them simultaneously - from discovery, to concept, to design. 

 

You should have experience working in collaborative environments, integrating 
user-centred design, technology, and business strategy, and managing clients.

plans will depend on being able to maintain an excellent reputation for quality 
of service.  

 

Primary Responsibilities

·         The candidate will have exceptional graphic design skills and the 
ability to take designs from wireframe concept through to compelling and usable 
graphical treatments for the web. 

·         Providing the graphical assets required by the development team. 
Strong knowledge of image optimisation for the web.

·         Be involved in developing a visual vocabulary of site elements and 
styles that will reinforce the brand throughout the site. Able to take the 
corporate brand guidelines for print and extend these to the website.

·         Have an excellent understanding of colour, composition, imagery and 
typography.

·         Take the lead on small interaction design, navigational or graphical 
projects, under the guidance of the Experience Architect.

·         Have an understanding of usability issues; experience of user testing 
is a plus. Be involved in preparation of, conducting of and analysis of user 
research, contextual interviews and user testing.

·         Be able to work with business and technology teams pre and during 
development to ensure details around user interaction journeys are specified.

·         Be involved in the visual design and interaction architecture for 
LOVEFiLM and partner white label websites; Web 2.0 plug-ins and widgets in 
third-party sites; desktop gadgets; desktop software for video delivery; and 
simple but viral games; 

·         Design and development of user interface prototypes and mock ups in 
flash, html or other suitable platform.

·         Create deliverables including conceptual diagrams, site maps, 
interaction flows, storyboards, page/screen wireframes and visual treatments.

·         Present work at client workshops and meetings.

·         Ability to understand business strategy and branding issues, and to 
balance these with user needs and technological constraints

 

Core competencies

·         An outstanding portfolio of wireframes, site maps, interaction flows, 
navigation systems and graphic design and production for the web.

·         Experience of graphics production and optimisation for the web.

·         Strong knowledge of Photoshop.

·         Strong understanding of HTML, with experience of designing graphical 
layouts using HTML.

·         Familiarity with technical issues around web development (web 
standards and accessibility) and ability to work constructively with 
engineering teams.

·         An understanding of the issues around page weight and loading times; 
with the ability to work within tough policies and guidelines.

·         Superb writing and presentation skills.

·         Ability to work in a team, communicate persuasively, and resolve 
issues.

·         Experience working in small collaborative teams

·         Great attitude and ability to handle change

·         Ability to work independently, prioritize, and solve problems 
proactively

·         Creativity and attention to detail

·         Ability to multitask and handle several projects at once

 

Nice-to-haves

·         Formal training and/or qualifications in Graphic design or 
Interaction Design.

·         Experience of hand coding HTML in a non WYSIWYG environment

·         Experience of CSS, AJAX and JavaScript

·         Strong knowledge of Flash

·         Skilled at building table free layouts with semantic markup and CSS

·         Experience of social networking and community based sites.

·         Background in software UI or industrial design
