New Masters in Design Ethnography Launched

The Schools of Computing and Design at the University of Dundee (UK)
have joined forces to launch the first professional level masters
programme in Design Ethnography and User Research. Demand for user
researchers and design ethnographers is growing steadily in the US
and Europe, and new markets such as India and Japan are opening up.
The one year long (September to September) MSc in Design Ethnography
is the first taught postgraduate course to address the specific
information, skills and knowledge needs of the next generation of
design ethnographers. Students will study alongside design,
interactive media design, and engineering students - giving them real
insight into the needs and contexts of the primary consumers of user
research in the design process. A three month long major personal
field study at the end of the course gives students an opportunity to
develop their skills responding to realistic, and in many cases
industry-partner set, project briefs. Our industry steering group
comprises members from Intel, Microsoft and SAP Labs in the US, as
well as the BBC and BT in the UK and several UK and US user research
consultancies. The course welcomes applications from those with a
first degree in a design, business or social sciences related field,
and from those currently working in the design industries but looking
to specialise or enhance their portfolio with a qualification in
design ethnography and user research. Full details are available on
our website at http://www.computing.dundee.ac.uk/mde/ or by emailing
the course director Dr Catriona Macaulay - [EMAIL PROTECTED]
