Have you guys thought of a combined solution of the both, where you sent the user to the login page showing a message that you have logged out.
This way you are informing the user about the action, yet giving it the chance to log in again. This also might work if you want the session to expire after sometime of non-use and you want to corroborate user credentials before granting them access again.
