Wednesday, February 13, 2008 UPA-MN The Best of the dux07 Conference ********************** NOTE: Due to our usual Thursday date landing on Valentines Day, the meeting day for our February event has moved to Wednesday, February 13. Please join us Wednesday, February 13 for the first of several UX topics to be offered by UPA-MN in 2008. dux07, conference on designing for user experience, offered the casual and hard-core user experience designer plenty of innovative case studies from which to forge new territory in User Experience design. >From larger-than-life robots to fantastic visualizations, from practical aspects of defining "simplicity" to religious practice enabled by mobile technologies, the conference offered a cornucopia of inspired experience designs. Many of the thought leaders on user experience were in attendance, and their particular takes on UX are worth considering. Suzanne Currie will lead our talk and will begin with a description of the conference theme, social media and networks, followed by a survey of some of the most interesting talks, among them: * SpiderCrab and the emergent object: designing for the twenty-first century * Experientializing home appliances to empower the aging population for autonomous living * Shared moments: opportunities for mobile phones in religious participation * Tree-Map arrival information: creating a dynamic visualization of presence You will have an opportunity to break into small groups, choose one of the case studies, and discuss the role that usability and UCD play in the UX solution. As UPA MN moves into 2008, we will consider how usability and user- centered design fit into the total user experience.
