Hello IxDA list! This is my first post, so I apologize if it's not
quite how one is supposed to use the list, but I figured I'd give it a
shot.

Say you've got a horizontal graphic. This graphic is very short
(height) and very wide (width) - like a DNA sequence, or something
(see http://www.brandonebward.com/sample/band_whole.jpg)

I want to be able to view this band with much more clarity - say twice
as tall and zoomed in 100% as I mouse over the band (see
http://www.brandonebward.com/sample/band_part.jpg)
.

Can you suggest ways I could show this enlarged portion?

Ideas I've had so far:

Magnifying glass on roll-over (ala iPhone text magnifying)
Swelling on roll-over (ala OS X dock)
User clicks and drags to select a region and that enlarged region
fills the space of the original whole (ala zooming w/ mag tool in
Photoshop)

I'm hoping there are other real-world, or virtual-world methods this
could be accomplished.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Brandon E.B. Ward
