Position: User Experience Program Manager Term: 3-month part-time contract, 10-20 hours/week Salary: Commensurate with experience
EightShapes has a large client with multiple project streams. We are looking for a program manager to track resources, milestones, and client communications. If you think you can help, we want to hire you. Per usual, there's a catch--some requirements: * You have to be detail-oriented, yet prepared to be pulled in lots of directions. * You have to know the user-centered design process and understand how to build project schedules around it. * You can manage team members to a project plan and appropriately delegate and filter client communications. * You can monitor expenditures, anticipate risks, and prepare project status reports. * You can walk the fine line between meeting client needs and--ahem--being realistic. * You have excellent communication skills and have experienced the politics of large organizations. * You can pick up the basics of new applications quickly to help with proofreading and version control. * You have to know how to talk to "creative types" and speak diplomatically to avoid bruising their ego. (Dan is very fragile.) These requirements are the easy part. Here's the challenge: * You have at least three years' experience. * You can walk us through at least two successful project plans. * You have a college degree (related field preferred, but not required) * You can supply three positive references--two customers and a team member. For our creative candidates, we ask for a portfolio of work. If you're applying for this position, you may OPTIONALLY provide samples of: * A project status report * A project plan * An email written to a client addressing a difficult situation (please change the names to protect privacy) About EightShapes EightShapes was established in 2006 by Nathan Curtis and Dan Brown to help large organizations develop effective online communications tools for managing information. Dan and Nathan founded the company on the principle that in order for a web site to be successful, users must be a part of the design process, and the cornerstone of effective design processes is producing actionable, attractive, and articulate artifacts. EightShapes' clients include Sun Microsystems, Comcast Communications, National Geographic, Marriott, Hanley Wood, Cisco, Discovery Communications, and more.
