*User Experience Researcher - Bangalore*

Help us learn about technology users in India! Google is looking for a User
Experience Researcher to design and conduct user research studies across the
product cycle, from concept to post-launch evaluation. The researcher we're
looking for will be highly skilled in a range of research methods and will
have significant experience working on discovery research for new web based
applications. This researcher will also have a minimum of 5 years experience
carrying out and/or supervising laboratory based evaluations using a variety
of methods.

Google researchers work in close collaboration with designers, product
managers, marketing staff and engineers to build products with an
unrelenting focus on the needs of real users. The ideal candidate for this
job will have outstanding communication skills and will be able to
demonstrate the ability to incorporate design research into the overall
product cycle. The ability to work successfully with interdisciplinary teams
is essential. The ability to explain the fundamentals of research practice
to non-specialists, and to drive change based on research findings are
highly desirable.

This position will introduce the research discipline in our growing
Bangalore office. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with a range of
project including hands-on research, participation in product, design and
engineering reviews, and the formulation of strategic planning for user
experience research. As the position is in Bangalore, the successful
candidate will be fluent in written and spoken English in addition to Hindi
and/or Tamil and Kannada. Knowledge of additional Indian languages is
especially helpful. While this position will focus on India, experienced
researchers who have been trained outside of India but meet other
requirements are invited to apply.

As a researcher in Google's Bangalore office, you will have the opportunity
to work on products of many types, including many that are familiar and
globally relevant- and some that are completely new and relevant to the
local Indian market. While some research on web-based products and services
is preferred, those whose primary research experience is in software and/or
hardware are also invited to submit applications.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of successful
research carried out in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. We would
like to interview candidates with demonstrated expertise in three or more of
the following areas:

   - Project management of multi-location user studies.
   - Accessibility and universal design.
   - Creation of personas.
   - Field-based research techniques, such as ethnography.
   - Analysis of web server log data.
   - Summative evaluations or benchmarking of technological products.
   - Management of outsourced user research projects.
   - Participatory design techniques.
   - Testing applications for mobile devices.
   - On-line communities and social computing.

Requirements:

   - B.S. in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Psychology, Computer
   Science, or related field.
   - Academic or practical knowledge of user research methods, including
   lab-based usability studies, field studies, and usability inspections
   (heuristic evaluations or cognitive walkthroughs).
   - Excellent analytical ability, especially with regard to observation of
   user behavior.
   - Strong oral and written communication skills; can present findings
   concisely and effectively.
   - Can work independently and effectively prioritize time between multiple
   projects.
   - Flexible: can adapt to changing schedules and different types of
   products, and develop new user research methods where needed.
   - Can work well in cross-functional teams, including Engineers, Product
   Managers, and UI Designers.
   - Training in research methods and statistics.
   - Knowledge of or experience with any of the following is a big plus:
   - Early-stage user research methods such as contextual inquiry, paper
   - Working with product teams to ensure that user research findings are
   - Design and analysis of experiments or surveys.
   - International user research or remote user studies.
   - Accessibility and universal design.
   - Analysis of web server log data.
   - Web design/HTML.
   - Programming/scripting.
   - Eye-tracking.
   - Testing applications for mobile devices.
   - On-line communities and social computing.

While we assume that most qualified applicants will have a master's or a
doctoral degree in a related research field, we also welcome applications
from research practitioners whose qualifications have come from less
traditional paths.
