CONNECTING WORDS AND IMAGES 
Exhibitions, Lectures and Screenings on Hong Kong Arts, Design and 
Consumption


The York Centre for Asian Research (YCAR) and the Department of Design at 
York University proudly present a vibrant programme connecting exciting 
visual images and thought-provoking words on Hong Kong arts, design and 
consumption. 

The "Connecting Words and Images" event series includes two exhibitions by 
globally renowned Hong Kong designer Tommy Li and a lecture series 
designed to enhance understanding of Hong Kong arts and design. The free 
events run from July 9 to August 24, 2008 in downtown Toronto and are open 
to the public. The event series continues on September 26 and 27 at York 
University and includes a lecture by Professor Rey Chow of Brown 
University. 

EVENT SCHEDULE 
1) Opening Lecture: The Experience of Design Business Promotions: Canada 
and Hong Kong/China 
Date: Thursday, July 10, 2008 from noon to 2:30 pm 
Venue: Room 310, Metro Hall, 55 John Street (at King), Toronto 
Capacity: 50 people (first comes first serve basis)

Gallery hours: 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm (closed on Sundays and Public Holidays) 

4) Creative Works of Tommy Li, Part 2: Commercial Design 
Date: July 9 to August 25, 2008 
Venue: Urbanspace Gallery, Studio 117, 401 Richmond St West, Toronto 
Gallery hours: Weekdays 10:00 am to 6:00 pm; Saturday 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm 
(closed Sundays and Public Holidays) 

Tommy Li graduated from the School of Design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic 
University. Over his career, he has received almost 500 awards worldwide. 
Li is a member of the esteemed Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) and 
his company, Tommy Li Design Workshop Limited, is a leading brand and 
image consultant for many prestigious corporations in China, Hong Kong and 
Japan.
