Hi, There are some gaming industry item-database sites providing sort of filtering systems that approachs multi-column sorting of objects. I'm not convinced that it is the best practice in terms of interaction design and it should probably possible to find better ways; anyway if it can help, try out for instance: http://www.wowhead.com/ if you select an item type, it is possible to simple sort the data by clicking on a column. But it is also possible to additionally add a filter by shift-clicking another column.
