Yes, you are right Chauncey, as I struggle to type on this new iPhone I see your point.

The client is most interested in web site design for new concepts-good examples that show rather than tell about how it works. Sorry, iphone was a poor choice and a distracter. I'm on vacation...

Hi Ron,

A question that I might ask is what criteria are most important to
your client? Is he/she interested in visualization, new forms of
navigation, instant learning, ..... I love my iPhone and use it for
many things including audio listening, notes, cooking, photos, etc.
(and not much as a phone), but it is a pretty inefficient (though
elegant) user interface with no shortcuts (it has a hub and spoke
design that comes from the 80s or earlier) and no cut and paste
(around in the mid 80s or earlier) and an iconic menu interface that
was common in the early 1990s (without the more modern gestural
input).

I love my iPhone and think it is cool and elegant and wonder how it
would affect my dating life if I were 30 years younger, but it is a
combination of a few cool new technologies packaged with a bunch of
venerable technologies from the last 3 decades.

So, I'm curious, could you pin your client down a bit? If the product
is to be used a lot, you want UI designs that focus on efficiency or
the ability to find things in a universe of millions of possibilities.

I would try a metaphor brainstorming workshop to tap in to
possibilities as well as look at what is novel out there.

Have a good weekend,

Chauncey

I have a client who is asking for examples of good interface design for new concepts. Some I like are Zipcar, Pandora, and the iPhone. I thought it would be good to ask the rest of the design community. What do you think?
