Dell's Global Site Design team is seeking an information architect (IA) to help design the next generation of dell.com. The IA will be a key member of the team responsible for the creation and maintenance of the dell.com site architecture and taxonomy, and will have the opportunity to participate in the design of the user interface for the taxonomy management system. Additionally, the IA will be involved in the creation, design and production of numerous online projects from conception through production.
Responsibilities: * Creation and maintenance of complex information taxonomies using faceted classification. * Create wireframes, site maps, schematics, process maps, feature lists, mockups, visual specification, and prototypes to describe the intended user experience from written and verbal specifications * Analyze users and their information and functional needs * Define site architecture, navigation, and taxonomies that serves as a blueprint of the site upon which all other aspects are built * Create and document functional specs based on user interaction and wireframe development * Create persona/scenarios/storyboards * Collaborate with designers to determine page layouts that retain user focus Creating client-appropriate, cutting edge designs for client projects * Able to archive/organize work * Able to follow/expand naming conventions Qualifications: * Extremely strong English language skills * Comfortable work independently as part of a globally distributed team * Able to delegate work/manage time * Strong inter-personal and communication skills * Prior experience working with taxonomy management in a web content management system such as Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS), Drupal, Expression Engine, MODx, etc. * Strong proficiency with MS Visio, MS Excel, Adobe Fireworks * Familiarity with CSS, AJAX, JavaScript, XHTML * Knowledge of architecture-related software (databases, server protocols, etc.) * Working knowledge of User Centered Design Principles and Practices * Ability to follow existing identity standards * Able to follow/develop site navigation/architecture * Understands principles of interface architecture * Generation of logical naming conventions * Detail oriented * Must provide online portfolio with resume Education: * Bachelor's degree or higher in Information Studies, Computer Science, Library Science, Information Systems, or related field. Alternatively, 3-5 years work experience in comparable positions. Term: This is an open ended contract position, likely (but not guaranteed) to last a year or more.
