Well, just because people CAN read the field, doesn't mean they will. Forcing a second entry would seem to reduce the likelihood of a typo, even in a field that you can see. Yes, it is an extra field to fill in, but it seems a small price to pay to ensure that I can log in without having to reset my password the first time I need it. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
