The other day I saw a Ford Focus commercial featuring a User Interface Designer talking about the UI he designed for the dashboard console. First of all, I was excited to see IxD getting top billing in a car commercial. Secondly, I've been interested in Interaction Design for cars for a long time but have been unable to find out much about where this kind of design is being done. The commercial I saw painted the picture that Ford has their own UX team, although my feeling is that a lot of companies outsource this type of work to design firms. Anyone out there have experience designing interfaces for automobiles or know someone who does? I'd appreciate any info on this niche field, as I'd like to do this kind of work.
