Two of my top books are Donald Norman's The Design of Everyday Things and Alan Cooper's About Face 3: The Essentials of Interaction Design. Both of these books cover the essentials of the subject quite well, but I have to credit The Design of Everyday Things for getting me to begin to think differently about the work I produce.
