It's maybe slightly tangently related, but UCLIC has been doing research
into the use of digital libraries:

As many of the users of digital libraries are researchers, you might find
something of use from their publications. There's info about specific
projects on the website, and if you needed to contact someone about it, Ann
Blandford is the one in charge of the project.
