Hi all,

I have been teaching how to program to non-engineers, mostly designers, artists and a few musicians, and it all goes well until we hit the arrays.

I've seen similar problems, and I usually find that physical world examples help introduce the concept before we start talking about coding syntax. Depending on the audience's characteristics, I've used everything from a map of Manhattan to our inter-office mailboxes.
