along in person join us online instead!)
DATE: Tuesday March 31st 2009
PLACE: Dundee (UK) and Cyberspace...
TIMES: In person (1200-1400 GMT) Online (0800-1000 GMT and 1700-1900

User research and design ethnography are in wide demand across the
design and technology sectors globally; from interior design to mobile
phones to computer software, the world's leading companies understand
that getting up close and personal with their end-users is important
in today's increasingly globalised and competitive marketplace. The
University of Dundee offers the world's only full time Masters degree
in Design Ethnography. Our students study ethnographic and other user
and design research methods and undertake a major solo project in
semester three where they have an opportunity to design, conduct and
communicate a significant piece of user research.
The course has been developed with the input of our Industry steering
group which includes Intel US and Intel Ireland, Microsoft US and
Microsoft Research Cambridge, Oracle US, SAP US, the BBC UK and BT UK,
as well as a number of user research consultancies and design firms in
the UK and US. A small number of SAAS funding awards are available for
UK and EU students, and there are also a number of scholarships
offering between £2000 and 50% reduction in fees for international
students. Full details of the course and how to apply can be found at:

At our Open Day you can meet the course director, find out more about
design ethnography and our course, and chat with some of our students.
If you can attend in person in Dundee you are welcome to join the
physical open day between 1200 and 1400. If you can't attend in person
we will also be holding virtual open day sessions between 0800 and
1000 and also between 1700 and 1900 GMT.
To book a place at either the 'physical' or the 'virtual' open days
please email the course director Dr Catriona Macaulay: [email protected]
. If you can't make any of the sessions or would like more
information immediately Catriona is happy to answer questions via
email, or arrange to phone/Skype you for a chat.
