Ah, I see. I didn't realize you were referring to this specific item in my list. Yes, I agree that it is typically discussed as a dichotomy, and if I'm remembering correctly, that's how the articles we read tended to approach it, but I can assure you that our discussion of those readings was not a black and white debate.
