I have a family friend who does patent applications and drawings for a group of lawyers. There are very specific guidelines you must follow and I found most of them here:
http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/pac/design/rules.html I recommend you search uspto.gov thoroughly and even consult with a patent artist in your area to fill in the gaps in your knowledge. The drawing can make or break the application so make sure you know what you're doing before you start in. Ironically the drawings must be clean and clear because they get scanned, faxed, and stored by very archaic means so they have to survive these and more. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
