I suggest a read of Luke Wrobeleski's book Web Form Design book in terms form design best practices. In fact, anything speaking to eCommerce best practices would also be relevant given that in the end it is all about converting the visitor.
>From a best practices stand-point Forrester publishes a number of documents on financial services site and online application best practices that are also worth reading and also does an annual review of financial services sites (in Canada and the US).
