I conducted a diary study using google docs (forms for surveys, spreadsheets for data collection). This was useful considering all my users were remoted, and the survey rolled over many groups. The analysis was a little cumbersome, but that is to be expected when there were nearly 200 participants. It takes a little getting used to, but it is certainly quite possible. FYI - I was collecting both qualitative and quantitative data.
