I have to agree with Diego, I don't see how browsing by name will help users discover music they are interested in. A "Browse by Genre" or "Find artists similar to..." would probably be a better fit. Of course, those results of artists in a particular genre could be ordered alphabetically by default, so maybe there is a compromise. But there are a lot of ways to categorize a band, perhaps a faceted search would be a better model for your site...some interesting facets could be: record label, album sales, genre, number of albums, demographics (age of band, age of members?, geographic region, language, etc.)
